Well, we made it over a month before getting into a stupid pointless argument on the Internet.

It wasn't on Reddit, though, and given how crap this week has been, we'll let ourselves off easy. And in all fairness? "Humans are stupid, thank god I'm not one" is a blazingly bad otherkin take that, however understandable it is, really needs to be called out as such more often.

(Because yeah, humans do do some dumb shit, but we don't get to pretend we're not part of humanity right here, right now, in this lifetime, regardless of what other lives we have lived.)

Ohhh eff that "Humans are stupid." thing. We hate that take so bad, and thank you for calling it out.
Our college abusive ex roommate used to do that exact thing, that exact hot take (Tomorrow) and that's what eventually made us break that friendship. Glad we did. We never looked back.

misanthropy is hatred of humanity. I am an anthropologist, someone who studies humanity, so you can imagine I am passionate about it

Humans are a very complex and diverse species, we are capable of both bad and good. I don't think it's fair to hate the whole species for the actions of a minority, and it's almost always a minority, especially when you're talking about things like climate change, the drivers of those are a small number of humans with an extreme disproportionate amount of power over everyone else.

Can't blame you for getting involved- this sort of perspective is just awful. Like it or not, we're human in this life and aren't exempt from human problems. Saying you're exempt from humanity's problems because you're not human inside is just... ugh.

oh this makes me think of my mecha pilot analogy: basically if you pilot a mecha, you have to deal with mecha problems and do mecha things, and being inside a mecha can even protect you from a lot of things that would otherwise hurt you, but all of that still does not mean you are a mecha. I use it to explain that i'm still a cis dude even though I'm living in a trans dude's brain, but i think it can apply to nonhuman stuff too.

Late reply, but the spat we got into was on plural.cafe, which is a Mastodon instance (self hosted Twitter-alike with some bells and whistles that let it connect to other self-hosted social media) for plurals. We just ended up blocking said person afterward, and we've been mostly keeping to ourselves to avoid a repeat. :P

WE APPRECIATE EMEZI SO MUCH HONESTLY. They made it to the cover of Time Magazine and had an article in there where they were still unabashedly themselves! We need to make a new post to share. :D

Good for fucking them! Their star has risen higher than any fuckin' plural I have heard about in decades, AND that star has risen for something OTHER than That One Multi Memoir. Seriously, go them!
