"I know what claws you hide beneath that coat, o sibling mine."
"Oh, but it honed us, did it not? It sharpened our teeth and lengthened our claws, quickened our stride and strengthened our jaws." She crouched low to the ground, her eyes level with and locked upon theirs - all four of them, gleaming gold. "This you cannot deny, o questioner mine. We learned so very much that we would have not, otherwise."
"It broke us, too." The shepherd's voice was soft, barely distinct.
She grinned, bearing all of her teeth. Each was glittering white, and as wide around as the shepherd's wrists. "And so we grew back stronger, and cleverer, and sharper."
"I know what claws you hide beneath that coat, o sibling mine."
