really happy to say that rusted moss push update that include flexible mode enhancement for great climb - timer on eye gates is now super long , so even fumbliest of players can get through and enjoy full challenge :D

really happy to see this because oh , was literally stuck there for hours try and try and try again , but always come up seconds too short in final room because of fumbly fingers - after already spend immense time on room prior - and have to completely give up . so yeah , can finally finish great climb !

have small collection of journal and mini tabletop games , but very rarely play ... sometimes struggle to come up with ideas , sometimes hit feelings too hard and have to back out . but more than anything , kind of just like to read and imagine how fun this rule set would be . think this is fair enough to consider form of play as well ! just feel sort of silly to actually look at objectively . here is great collection of games , can not give any recommendations or advice simply because never play as intend !

sometimes also think , like , would be so great to use this feature from this game in that game over there , add some more randomness to whatever system ... or maybe even combine how different games do similar things , see how that change . honestly , even sometimes kind of fun to use gemulator features in games that have no game master to start with .

really love video games because do not have to choose how overall world and story will play out and change - developers already choose that - but there is obviously limitation in that , too . love creativity of tabletop and journal games , but then sometimes almost feel like sheer amount of choice and control overwhelm . honestly spend more time think about tabletop and journal games than actually play :P

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: What do you like to listen to / watch while crafting?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

get through some endings that prove really useful , or at least fun .

muto
assertive analog poison pie ... so yeah , did try gala with thief here , but unfortunately could only get 3 out of 5 items due to wrong traits . still , really fun event , and will be super fun to go again !

talula
thickening brown chanterelle , who climb great mountain - and live to tell tale , with promise that knight atop mountain will kill anyone else who take inspiration from talula's story . bittersweet success .

babi
elegant white tuft , who become master painter ! now able to make custom palettes for game . also relocate eyeflower into mushroom village green district , but not sure yet if this is persistent effect - will have to check again another time . on bright side , was also able to put tons of gold shrooms in garden , which means ...

nala
looming grey ink cap ... this is what build up for ever since realise : creepy daughter to go to school and become teacher's pet , in order to get mushy apple garden item . well worth effort , daughters will actually be literate from now on ! on top of that , all that extra gold allow nala to actually buy house in mushroom village . finally !

garden can be kind of cumbersome if not actually understand yet , but absolutely worth effort to learn .

fae farm ~ really odd line

Jul. 23rd, 2025 09:04 am

[personal profile] kossai
not really play fae farm right now , but still have this one thing stuck in head since first come across . now , this game is extremely heavy on this super cosy , conflict-free world ... sometimes to detriment , because not always think about other implications .

like , people know that abandoned objects pick up ambient magic and become angry creatures , so ... just ... allow that to happen , not treat objects with reverence and care ? and pretty much every substantial problem is just result of hungry or cranky nature spirit that act out , just need some food and kind words and everything is immediately OK again .

and like ... have nothing against games that just want to be cosy , comfortable , and inclusive , but approach means everything - and think fae farm approach weirdly sometimes . for one thing , have character like aspen who is in wheelchair - who is essentially stuck in market square for all of time because of bumpy stone bridges , steep hills , and stairs that wheelchair could not possibly navigate , not that player can ever see navigate anyway . just feel sort of empty like , yeah , need wheelchair guy somewhere !

but main topic here : there is this potion seller NPC who player can talk and learn from , and in one line of dialogue say that someone try to order love potion , so instead give jar of bees .

sorry what ??? look , kossai hate love potion tropes too , but this one little line that try to be cute and subversive of idea is now just really out of place sour reminder that hey , people sexually assault each other here too ! could this be one of beloved townsfolk , even ? no details , and so out of place with overall vibe , that this line just plant really uncomfortable seed .

vtubers and streams

kossai do not really watch any vtubers with consistency , and only subscribe to one - ironmouse . if also subscribe to ironmouse , or anyone else in that sphere , will know that agency ironmouse belong to screw everyone over . not really into vtuber world , but sometimes take interest in pieces of news and watch situations unfold from afar , and learn ironmouse is far from only one who leave .

among these others is zentreya , who never hear about before , but find out actually use TTS . and , augh , that feel sort of bittersweet to see . people disrespect TTS in everyday life consistently , but will accept from sexy vtuber model , for one . for two , as far as understand , zentreya's messages effectively go from speech to text to speech . TTS is just for anonymity , but still have speech ability to input . this means while there is some lag behind , that is much less dramatic than nonverbal AAC use - and able to give answers completely hands free , in contrast .

to actually try and stream through AAC , would need quite long times to formulate answers , and this would come at cost of halt all other actions . there is small handful out there , but this is just ... not something people generally patient enough for , let alone how that get in way of certain games and activities .

every so often , think about possibility of try to stream - nothing long term , just experiment to say that try something new , but ugh . would have to choose - use AAC and accept all of time losses , impatience , and frustrations ? or forgo ability to communicate words entirely , and just carry with laughs and noises ?

Rogan/Mori: So, way back in the tumblr days, I would see this multi urban legend that you could only become multi if you'd been traumatized before the age of... well, the exact age would change depending on legend iteration, apparently nine was the magic number I saw in 2011, but I feel like seven was another. I could not for the life of me figure out where this stupid idea CAME from, and it drove me crazy!

Well, surprise, but while digging around doing etymological research (i.e., digging in Ralph Allison's published papers), I might've found a source of the urban legend: Allison's "Critical Issues: MPD & DID Should Be Used For Two Separate Groups of Dissociators" CANDID (California News of Dissociation and Identity Disorder), 3(3):4, 1995. (And apparently I even knew about this back in 2011 when I first blogged about this stupid urban legend, but I didn't dig deeper or put two and two together.) This paper is worth discussing, just because... well, it's crackpot as hell, and a nice example of why you shouldn't believe everything a therapist tells you, no matter how famous or (once) well-respected they are (or were).

This started as us reading a stupid paper about this guy's cracked ideas, only for us to get sucked into pointing at it as a stellar example of why therapists should not be treated like gods. )

so did not want to get too into meta-game aspects , but inevitably get really into meta-game aspects , bwahahaha . record every little scrap of information possible in obsidian vault , and fill out some of slightly more obtuse conditions to get new ends and new rewards . so to recap some of highlights from daughters ...

there is lots of fun stuff which not even touch yet , and that is what honestly love . still need 2 more daughters to fill in with humpty , still need some daughters who can show caelia cool things , still actually need to take several people to gala - copper woman , doomed lady , violet coral girl ... think there is something about gala mission with thief , too ? that one seem like so much fun . and that is to say nothing of actual long-term lore and mysteries of world .

really want to go for teacher's pet though , need creepy girl for that - mushy apple would be so useful , so many of these girls completely illiterate . different endings give player different items for garden , and these garden items hold influence over traits daughter will grow with - mushy apple give bookworm ( literacy ) and little pet worm ( cuteness ) .

this is also why consistently end up with multiple of same daughter types - without knowledge of how to meta-game garden , will probably end up with random grab bag of traits and stats , so without any changes can produce same ones over and over .
