(Read me first!) About this journal

EDIT 9/3/21: Just as a heads-up, we don't give people access automatically, mostly because we're self-conscious about "spamming" people. If you want access, just ask in the comments - you'll likely get it as long as you're not a totally empty account or a creep.
Hi! Thanks for stopping by! Here, you'll find art, fandom chatter, stories, and the occasional bundle of thoughts. Please give this post a lookover first, though, to make doubly sure we're compatible!
Who the heck are we?
It really is a good question.
To answer this using an incomplete list:
- Asian-American
- 21+ years old
- Highly brainweird
- Dissociatively plural (hence the use of both "I" and "we")
- Queer - collectively nonbinary (they/them), gray-ace, gray-aro, and pan
- Polyamorous
- Tired, but hanging in there.
You may know us as "Otters" or "fae" in certain non-plural circles, or "Lions" in certain plural circles, pre-name-change.
There's a lot more than this, but selves-description is always hard, and never quite as thorough as firsthand experiencing.
Reasons we might mesh
Our fandoms:
- Guild Wars 2
- Slime Rancher
- Runewriters
- Tattered Weave
- Elsewhere University
- Celeste
- Supergiant's games (Transistor and Pyre primarily)
Tropes, characters, etc we like:
- Soft, sentimental men/mascfolk and strong, deadly ladies/femfolk
- Close bonds that don't fit neatly into society's classifications and notions
- Disability, and coming to terms with it
- Monstrous/beastly characters who are dark but not evil
- Impossible burdens and self-destructive loyalty
- The Fair Folk at their most beautiful and terrifying
- Nice hats
Our other interests:
- Programming (mostly web dev)
- Open-minded psychology/psychiatry
- Mental health and recovery
- Speedrunning and other forms of gamebreaking
- Creepy angels and faeries
- Original characters. Lots and lots of original characters.
Reasons we might not mesh
We are highly inclusionist and feel that listening to people's experiences is more important than nitpicking their label choice. We feel that the means do not justify the ends when the means involve throwing people who are already suffering under the bus. Ideology must serve people, not the other way around - protection isn't protection when it involves policing, fear, and abuse of the abused.
Our full opinions on taboo fictional content are complicated and not something we trust the open (and often vicious and unnuanced) internet with, but we do want to make some of them abundantly clear:
- Abusing real children and real animals is not okay. Animals and children cannot consent. Sexually explicit photographs, videos, and other non-fictional content of said real children or animals is not okay.
- Paraphilias that are inherently harmful to act upon IRL are not part of the queer/MOGAI umbrella.
- There are many complex reasons that people engage with fiction, and it is bad faith to assume that enjoying a trope in fiction means condoning, enjoying, or desiring it in real life.
- It is okay to be grossed out by fiction. It is okay to have opinions about what kinds of fiction are acceptable. It is not okay to harass people because their opinions and tastes are different from yours.
If you disagree with us, please leave us be instead of starting an argument. These are things that we and people dear to us have been hurt by, and we are not comfortable being involved in discourse. We are not going to comb through the blogs of everyone who ever subscribes to us or comments on our posts, but we will remove people from our journal if necessary.
Also, there are times when we might unfollow people despite being generally okay with each other. Usually this is because we get overwhelmed by certain content easily (politics and current events are the usual culprits) and need a break. It's nothing personal when this happens.
Content warnings
We create some content that isn't suitable for everyone:
- Darker fictional content (usually of the sort you'd expect from Ye Olde Faerie Stories: magic-induced mental deterioration, unhealthy relationships, violence, suicide)
- Explicit sexual content (vanilla and light kink) and discussion of kink/sexuality
- Body horror
- Criticism of a few subcultures we belong to or are adjacent to (e.g. plural, otherkin)
- Frank discussion of trauma and mental illness, including our personal experiences with them
All of this will be kept under cuts with appropriate warnings, and NSFW content will be kept on a separate filter open only to adults who request access. Please be mindful of your own limits - you are not obligated to read everything we post and it is okay to opt out. We won't hold unsubscribing against anyone.
Access filters
We have a few filters set up to manage who sees what. Ask if you want in, but we reserve the right to say no.
Public: The general open-to-everyone stuff!
Stuff you can expect here: fandom, OCs, art, stories, the occasional essay that we felt comfortable posting off the Access List. Probably lots and lots and lots and lots of noise about what we get up to in Guild Wars 2.
Access List: The primary filter.
Stuff you can expect here: more personal things, brainweird things, and lots of Thoughts. Things that we're not too concerned about keeping private, but don't really want on the open web either.
NSFW: What it says on the tin. You must be 18+ to be given access.
Stuff you can expect here: Spice(tm) of our OCs and detailed thoughts about kink, sexuality, etc.
Personal: The filter for our more personal posts. We only add people who we know decently well to this filter.
