hungryghostsSaw an article about a surge of hate crimes against Asians in the US. Knew better than to read it, but still spent a lot of the day oscillating between feeling afraid and helpless, and full of rage and wanting to go out in the streets and beat up all the racists with a baseball bat, laws be damned. But mostly helpless.
Ended up feeling super icky by the end of the day, too ill to cook. So we decided to order delivery. First restaurant we looked at was a ramen place that had been giving free meals to people and raising their staff's wages during the pandemic. They had an option to tip the restaurant workers themselves (not the delivery people), so we ordered a big bowl of ramen from them, dropped a big tip for the restaurant, and dropped a big tip for the delivery person as well. Thinking we will order again from them when we do the weekly household "support a local restaurant" thing.
Still want to go out and beat up assholes with a bat, just a little. :P But this is probably a nicer way to do something about the awfulness in the world, without getting arrested and losing our job and not being able to help other people anymore. It doesn't feel like enough, but honestly, with our weak noodly arms, we would only be able to beat up one racist before getting arrested, and there will always be more racists.

Date: 2021-02-12 04:17 am (UTC)We don't know if anyone's doing anything like that out here in coastal California, but we're gonna have to look, because we want to help too. Sad, the only way we can get delivery a lot of places is Doordash/Grubhub, and we all know how bad those companies are, but we're blind so not driving, and our partner system are pregnant so also not driving.
I think you did a great thing. Keep being awesome.
